So you either need to setup in your router - so that it ALWAYS give your machine the same IP, and does not give it to any other machine on your network. So if you setup forwards to 192.168.1.103 - these would no longer work, since your machines IP is not 103 any longer. Depending on other machines on your network, etc. The reason they state that you should use a static IP in your port forwards, is tmrw when you boot up your machine - it is possible that it's IP could change to 192.168.1.104. Your machine by default would get an IP from your router - say 192.168.1.103 The only way I can get it back it to make the ip dynamic.Um those directions have NOTHING to do with how to give your machine a STATIC IP address? Once ive done it, my net connection is lost.

The problem is, when I follow the instructions from here and it tells me about a static ip. Something with 44 seeders should result in a lot higher download than 20kb/sec - unless of course that is your max? What is your internet connection speeds? I would pick 1 client!! say utorrent - and correctly configure it!! And then use a large public torrent to tests your speeds, say one for ubuntu or something. There are many different reasons why one client might be faster than another - some clients may even be blocked by certain trackers, etc. 5k, 20k - what are you on dialup? Those are not speeds for a setup that is correct. You REALLY need to correctly setup your router to forward the port to your machines IP - if not then your never going to get any decent speeds. Then you should setup your machine as static, or if your router supports it reservations so your router always gives your computer the same IP.

Ie the IP address your belkin router gives your computer - and yes if your going to be using forwards. When they say static - they mean static for your computers IP, not your public IP.
